Bachelor of General Studies Program
The Bachelor of General Studies is an interdisciplinary program designed for nontraditional students and students with a large amount of coursework across multiple disciplines.
To declare the BGS degree, students must:
- Have 75 credit hours completed
- Meet with a BGS advisor in the AACD office to receive approval
- Complete the online Program Change Form in MyBLUE.
The Bachelor of General Studies promotes study in a wide range of disciplines — the arts, foreign languages, humanities, natural sciences, social sciences, and professional studies — that enable the student to develop a broad view, a capacity for critical thinking, and a fundamental understanding of human nature, society and values. It should not be confused with the General Education Program, which is a required component in all undergraduate degree programs.
Students completing the interdisciplinary, undergraduate BGS program will demonstrate:
- An understanding of the core knowledge of the distribution areas
- The ability to find relevant data and use it in appropriate ways
- The ability to read and comprehend literature appropriate to the distribution areas
- The ability to write in a manner appropriate to the distribution areas.
