Applied Health Sciences, Bachelor of Science

Offered by Health Science Programs

Students accepted into a professional school in the health sciences may receive a BS in Applied Health Sciences degree from UNK if they fulfill the requirements in one of the following options:

Option 1:

  1. Completion of all general studies requirements.
  2. A minimum of an additional 55 semester credit hours completed toward one of the pre-professional health programs presently listed in the catalog.
  3. Successful completion of 35 credit hours of coursework in professional school in one of the following areas: medicine, physical therapy, chiropractic, osteopathy, optometry, podiatry, dentistry, physician assistant, occupational therapy or pharmacy and occasionally other areas in which the professional program is considered to be at least equivalent to a baccalaureate degree and can be considered upper division credit hours.
  4. Not less than 32 semester credit hours shall be UNK credits.

Option 2:

  1. Completion of all general studies requirements.
  2. A minimum of an additional 40 credit hours of pre-radiologic technology coursework as presently listed in the catalog.
  3. Completion of a total of 25 credit hours of HSCI 475 – Internship in Health Sciences at an affiliated radiologic technology clinical training program.
  4. Successful completion of a radiologic technology clinical training program at an affiliated hospital program for which a total of an additional 25 credit semester hours is awarded.
  5. Not less than 32 semester hours shall be UNK credits.

Option 3:

  1. Completion of all general studies requirements.
  2. Transfer up to 66 credit hours from a successfully completed Associate Degree program in a health-related field including Surgical Technology, Dental Hygiene, Dental Assisting, Physical Therapy Assistant, Occupational Therapy Assistant, Radiologic Technology, Nursing and others as approved.
  3. Successful completion of an individualized program approved by the Health Sciences Advisor to reach a total of 120 credit hours. 
  4. Successful completion of 40 hours of upper division coursework, with no more than 24 credits in any one discipline. 
  5. Not less than 32 semester hours shall be UNK credits.
